چکیده

With the proliferation of mobile communications, new kinds of network architectures are being defined over the existing static one. Delay-Tolerant Networks (DTN) come to fill in a gap in the existing networking technology: they provide support for communication between peers when there is no end-to-end path available between them. Message forwarding in DTNs can be handled in many ways. In this work the performance of a DTN is analyzed in the case of scheduled message delivery, with particular consideration to the different message delivery delays and to the usage of buffers that store a message during its propagation from its source to the destination. We introduce the K2 heuristic algorithm for location-aware message delivery, based on the -nearest-neighbors technique, and compare simulation results with another basic message delivery technique, Message Forwarding with Flooding (MFF). The results of simulations on a simplified urban setting show that K2 reduces buffer usage while maintaining delivery delays approximately unchanged when compared to MFF. Simulations also suggest that adding a DTN-like message forwarding architecture with mobile access points to an existing fixed infrastructure can be an effective way to improve wireless coverage for delay-tolerant end-user applications such as e-mail, message passing and news broadcast.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Design an Efficient Community-based Message Forwarding Method in Mobile Social Networks

Mobile social networks (MSNs) are a special type of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) in which mobile devices communicate opportunistically to each other. One of the most challenging issues in Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is to design an efficient message forwarding scheme that has a high performance in terms of delivery ratio, latency and communication cost. There are two different approaches fo...

Modeling Redundance-based Routing in Delay Tolerant Networks

Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are usually intermittently connected mobile wireless networks. Routing in delay tolerant networks is a challenging problem because DTNs have their own unique features and some well-known assumptions of traditional networks are no longer true in DTNs. Various routing schemes have been proposed in literature which adopt message redundance to fasten the message deliv...

Integrated Social and QoS Trust-Based Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Delay Tolerant Networks

We propose and analyze a class of integrated social and quality of service (QoS) trustbased routing protocols in mobile ad-hoc delay tolerant networks. The underlying idea is to incorporate trust evaluation in the routing protocol, considering not only QoS trust properties but also social trust properties to evaluate other nodes encountered. We prove that our protocol is resilient against bad-m...
